Shannon Buck Named MWC Player of the Week


    Air Force's Shannon Buck has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Players of the Week, announced Wednesday by the conference office.

    A senior from Spokane, Wash., Buck won all six of his matches last week. He was 3-0 at No. 1 singles, winning all three matches in straight sets. He defeated Idaho State's Marc Pijoan (7-5, 6-2) to lead the Falcons to a 4-3 victory over the Bengals.

    The 15th-ranked player in NCAA Division I, Buck also defeated Northern Arizona's Gareth Ducray (6-0, 6-1) and South Dakota State's Zack Lunak (6-0, 6-0). In No. 1 doubles, Buck teamed with Trevor Johnson and Grant Keaton to post a 3-0 mark last week as the Falcons improved to 4-2 on the year. Buck is 16-4 overall in singles play and ranks first all-time at Air Force for singles win percentage in dual matches at 70-6 (92.1 percent).

    The Falcons, 4-2 this season, are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 19, when they play Nebraska and Creighton in Lincoln, Neb.
