Air Force defeats Point Loma, 6-3

The Air Force men's tennis team improved to 4-1 this season with a 6-3 victory over Point Loma Nazarene College Friday in San Diego, Calif.
Air Force opened the competition taking by winning two out of three matches. Point Loma won the number one doubles match as Rodrigo Suarez and Zac Markum defeated Chris and Greg Zielinski, 8-2. The Falcons came back, however, with victories at Nos. 2 and 3. AFA's Eric Pittman and Tyler McClung defeated Matt Larimore and Evan Dixon, 8-2, at the No. 2 slot, while the duo of Kyle Rainey and Justin Mancinelli captured the No. 3 match, 8-2, over Phil Dames and Joe Combs.
With the Falcons up 2-1 heading into singles play, Air Force needed to win three of the six singles matches. Rainey gained the team's first victory, defeating Markum, 6-4, 6-4. Mancinelli (No. 4) and McClung (No. 5) followed suit with straight-set wins over Dixon and Dames, respectively. Air Force's Phil Yim captured the No. 6 singles match with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Combs.
Suarez won the No. 1 singles match over Pittman, 7-5, 6-1, and Larimore won a three-set thriller over Chris Zielinski, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7) at the No. 3 position. Air Force stays in California for a match against the University of San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 9.
