The Air Force men’s tennis team hosts two matches this Saturday, Feb. 8 at the AFA Indoor Tennis Courts located inside the Cadet Gymnasium. The Falcons, 4-1 this spring, will play Metro State at 8 a.m. and North Dakota at 12 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Air Force went 2-1 last weekend, including a 4-3 victory over 49th-ranked BYU on Friday at home, the Falcons’ first victory over a ranked team since beating Nebraska on Feb. 4, 2005. AFA also defeated Northern Colorado 5-2 and fell to 54th-ranked Denver 7-0, both on the road.
Senior Alex Grubbs went 4-2 last weekend, including a thrilling 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot over Jeremy Bourgeois of BYU. He also paired with sophomore Jack McCullers to beat Bourgeois and Andrey Goryachkov at No. 2 doubles 6-5(4) to clinch the doubles point for the Falcons.
“We’re off to a good start this season and our team is looking to build on that this weekend," said Air Force head coach Dan Oosterhous. "These early season matches are critical to helping us be our best in April.”
