The Air Force men’s tennis team heads out on the road to face the University of Utah and BYU this weekend. The Falcons will play Utah on Friday, Feb. 1 in Salt Lake City and BYU on Saturday, Feb. 2 in Provo, Utah. Both matches will begin at 5 p.m. (MT).
The Falcons improved to 3-1 this season by sweeping a pair of matches at home last weekend. Air Force defeated Montana State and Seattle, each by a 6-1 score. Air Force won all three doubles matches and five of six singles contests against each school.
Senior Lance Wilhelm improved to 4-0 this season with a pair of straightsets wins at the No. 1 singles spot. Wilhelm and partner Grant Taylor also won both of their No. 1 doubles matches. Juniors Alex Grubbs, Steven Young and Andy Jackson each went 2-0 in singles play as well alst weekend. Jackson is also 4-0 this spring. Meanwhile, Grubbs and Young are each 3-1.
AIR FORCE HEAD COACH DAN OOSTERHOUS
Air Force head coach Dan Oosterhous is in his fourth season as the men’s tennis coach after being named the program’s 12th head coach on October 1, 2009. Oosterhous, a 1993 graduate of the Academy, replaced legendary head coach Rich Gugat, who retired after 36 years at the helm of the men’s tennis program. Oosterhous led the Falcons to an 11-13 record last season and has a 34-41 career mark.
Air Force plays at the University of Denver in Friday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m., before returning home for two matches on Sunday, Feb. 10 against Maryland-Baltimore County (9 a.m.) and Northern Colorado
