Falcons Face Denver Friday Night

    The Air Force men's tennis team continues its 2008 spring season on Friday, Jan. 25 when it travels north on I-25 to face the 66th-ranked Denver Pioneers. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Meadow Creek Tennis Club.

    The Falcons are 1-1 after splitting a pair of matches in Lincoln, Neb., last weekend. Air Force fell to Nebraska, 7-0, but rebounded to beat Creighton, 4-3. The Falcons pulled out two of the three doubles matches, including a 9-7 victory at the No. 3 spot by sophomore Mike Gies and freshman Johnny Buckingham. Sophomore Brett Rodgers and freshman Taylor Soster won at No. 1, 8-5, giving the Falcons an early 1-0 lead after the doubles matches.

    Rodgers, Buckingham and senior Greg Ferry each posted singles victories to give Air Force the team win. Rodgers led off by defeating Jose Guerra, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot, while Buckingham won a tough, 7-6, 6-4 decision over Brian Ward at No. 5. Ferry finished it off with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Michael Elson.

    The Falcons play their first home matches of the spring season on Saturday, Feb. 9 against Metro State (10 a.m.) and Colorado College (2 p.m.)
