The Air Force men’s tennis team opens its 2014 spring schedule with a pair of home matches this weekend. The Falcons will host Abilene Christian on Friday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m., and Grand Canyon University on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. Both matches will be played on the Air Force Indoor Courts located inside the Cadet Gymnasium. The Falcons played in three tournaments during the fall season with senior Steven Young and freshman Lucas Fumagalli each posting a team-high five singles wins. Young won two matches at the season-opening Milwaukee Classic, then won another two at the ITA Mountain Region Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., before losing in the round of 32.
Fumagalli, meanwhile, won his first-round match as well as two matches in the consolation round of the Mountain Regionals. Sophomore Jack McCullers closed out the fall campaign by advancing to the consolation final of the “A” flight at the Texas Invitational.
In doubles, Young and Fumagalli posted a team-best five victories, including a pair at the Milwaukee Classic and the regional tournament.
Head coach Dan Oosterhous is in his fifth season at Air Force and is back to work while still recovering from two strokes suffered in the spring. Jeff Nevolo was promoted to associate head coach last summer and is in his second season with the Falcons.
