Buck, Johnson Ranked Nationally Entering Spring Season


    Air Force senior Shannon Buck is ranked No. 15 in the country according to the latest Division I FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. In addition, Buck and fellow senior Trevor Johnson are ranked 11th in the nation in doubles.

    Buck, from Spokane, Wash., had a very successful 2005 fall season, including a second-place finish at the ITA Central Region Championship, falling to the nation's 13th-ranked player, Luke Shields of Boise State, in the final. Buck, who finished the fall campaign with an 11-3 record, also qualified for the ITA National Indoor Championships. He enters the 2006 spring season with the best dual match percentage in school history at 91.5 percent (65-6).

    Buck paired with Johnson to produce a 4-3 record in the fall, with all four victories coming at the Central Region Championships. The duo, seeded 10th, advanced to the finals by defeating the Nos. 2, 3 and 6 seeds.

    Air Force opens its spring season this Sunday, Jan. 15 against UC Riverside in Poway, Calif., beginning at 12 p.m.
