Falcons Complete Day One at UT Invitational

The Air Force men’s tennis team completed the first day of the UT Invitational Friday in Austin, Texas. Senior Steven Young and freshman Lucas Fumagalli advanced to the round of 16 in doubles after defeating Trey Best and Eman Esfandi of Laredo Community College in the round of 32.
Young and Fumagalli will face Cam Tehrani and Kris Trukov of Marquette in the round of 16 on Saturday. In other doubles action, senior Alex Grubbs and sophomore Andrew Parks won their first-round match, 8-5, over Lucas Anderson and Austin Smith of Ball State, but fell in the round of 32 to Matt Dooley of Notre Dame and Sudanwa Sitaram of Texas, 8-4. Junior Grant Taylor and sophomore Jack McCullers lost in the round of 32 to Eddy Covalschi and Alex Lawson of Notre Dame, 8-3.
In singles play, Parks was the only Falcon to win a match on Friday, defeating Dillon Eizember of Tyler Junior College, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 in the round of 32 of the “B” flight. Parks then lost in the round of 16, 6-3, 6-0, to Andre Napolitano of Texas Tech.
In the “A” singles flight, all four Falcons lost their first-round match in straight sets, including Grubbs falling 6-2, 6-1 to the tournament’s fourth-seed Ryan Bandy of Notre Dame.
