Men’s Tennis Off to a Strong Start at ITA Regionals

Provo, Utah -
The men’s tennis team is off to a strong start at the ITA Regionals, advancing two singles to the third round and two doubles teams to the second round following the first day of action at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah.


In doubles action Isaac Perez and Patrick Sklenka topped BYU’s Jake Tulius and John Pearce, 8-4, while Tadhg Collins and Mack Galvin bested Eric Morris and Matt Summers from the University of Denver, 8-7.

In the singles bracket Galvin and Sean McKendree tallied two wins apiece to advance to the third round. Galvin notched his first victory of the day over Estaban Santibanez (Idaho) in three, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, followed by a win over Pedro Fernandez De Valle (Denver), 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. McKendree saw victory over two foes in two straight-set victories. First, he topped Lucas Coutinho (Idaho), 6-4, 7-5, followed up with a win over Thomas Fisher (NAU), 6-3, 6-2.

Championship singles action continues Oct. 19, at 12:00 p.m., while consolation singles action commences at 5:30. Doubles championship and consolation action will continue, Oct. 20.
