Falcons Play Well at UNM Balloon Fiesta Classic

    The Air Force men's tennis team completed the second day of the UNM Balloon Fiesta Classic Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M. Sophomores Austin Francis and James Tomlin advanced to the semifinals of the doubles bracket with an 8-3 victory over Nick Martin and Greg Mitchell of New Mexico Military Institute. The Falcons duo will face Alejandro DeMucha and Stefan McKinney of New Mexico State on Sunday.

    In singles action, sophomore Brett Rodgers dropped his quarterfinal match in the "A" flight to Joe Wood of New Mexico, 6-3, 7-6, but came back to beat McKinney, 6-0, 6-0 in the play-back round. Francis cruised to three victories in the consolation bracket, downing Wilton Atkins of Western New Mexico, 6-1, 6-1, Rav Dhatt of Denver, 6-2, 6-3 and Air Force freshman Taylor Soster, 8-4. He will play in the consolation final on Sunday.

    In the "B" singles flight, freshman Alex Beaussart lost in the quarterfinals to Brelin Powell of Northern Arizona, 7-5, 6-0, while senior Greg Ferry downed Emmanuel Hecher of Western New Mexico, 7-6, 6-0 in the consolation bracket.

    The tournament wraps up on Sunday.
