Men’s Tennis Concludes First Day of Action on Two Fronts

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The men’s tennis team completed the first day of action at the Rice Fall Invitational and New Mexico’s Lobo Invitational, Friday afternoon.

At the Rice Fall Invitational, the Mack Galvin-Tadgh Collins duo came up short against Rutledge-Janglin of Rice, 8-7 (2), in the doubles blue draw. In the doubles gray draw, Isaac Perez and Patrick Sklenka picked up a win, 8-4, over Hyrkkonen and Bloss of Tennessee Tech.

In singles action, Sklenka fell to Rice’s Eric Rutledge, 6-3 7-5, in the A Draw. In the B Draw, Perez went 1-1 on the day, picking up a first-round win over Daniel Warren (Rice), 4-6 6-4 10-7, and falling to Jackson Cobb (Tennessee Tech), 6-4 7-6. Galvin also went 1-1 on the day with a first-round win over Ivanhoe Lissanevitch (UIW), 6-0 6-1, and falling to Nile Clark (MIA), 6-4 6-3. In the C Draw, Collins finished 1-1 on the day, picking up a first-round win over Zach Vander Heiden (UIW), 6-4 2-6 6-10, and came up short against Carlos Pedrosa Cuevas (CC), 6-2 6-1.

Doubles action of the Rice Invitational continues Saturday at 9:00 a.m., while singles action will continue Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

At the Lobo Invitational, Luke Sanderson and Paul Hendrix dropped the flight one doubles match to New Mexico’s Baklini and Stockmar, 6-7. Jamie Bautista and Matthew Ghering fell to New Mexico’s Escutia and Tran, 4-6, in the second flight. In the third flight, Sean McKendree and Santiago Garcia picked up a win against New Mexico State’s Menard and Rosas, 7-6.

In singles action, Hendrix picked up a win over Henry Adams (ACU), 7-6 4-6 6-1, while McKendree picked up a win against Cole Lawson (ACU), 6-0 6-1. Ghering notched a win over Joaquin Delgado (ACU), 6-4 1-6 6-2, while Garcia picked up a win over Justin Bac (NAU), 6-0 6-4.
