Falcons Finish Day One at Baylor Invite

    Three players on the Air Force men's tennis team completed the first day of the HEB Baylor Invitational Friday in Waco, Texas. Freshman Cody Hall had an impressive debut with the Falcons, winning both of his singles matches in the "B" flight main draw.

    Hall opened his collegiate career with a 7-6(7), 6-2 victory over Rusty Turpin of Tulsa in the first round, then followed it up with an exciting, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 win over Mike Donovan of TCU in the second round. Hall will face Marcus Lunt of Texas A&M in the round of 16 on Saturday.

    Junior Austin Francis lost both of his singles matches in the "B" flight, dropping a thrilling 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) match to Geoff Hernandez of Portland, then fell in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4 to Patrick Dean of Texas A&M in the consolation bracket.

    Junior Brett Rodgers competed in the "A" flight, but lost both of his singles matches in straight sets. He fell to David Gonzales of Texas Tech, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round, and lost to Zach Nicholas of TCU, 6-2, 6-4, in the consolation round.

    Francis and Hall combined to win their only doubles match of the day, downing Rodrigo Briceno and David Cavalcati of Wichita State, 8-5. They will continue play in the main draw on Saturday.
