Falcons Close Out Regular Season With 7-0 Loss to Utah

The Air Force men's tennis team closed out its 2008 regular season Sunday with a 7-0 loss to the University of Utah at Albuquerque, N.M. With the loss, Air Force finished the season with a 10-14 overall record and an 0-6 mark in the Mountain West Conference. Meanwhile, Utah improved to 10-9 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Utes jumped out to a 1-0 lead with convincing wins at all three doubles spots. Zach Ganger and Miron Mann led things off with an 8-1 victory over sophomore Brett Rodgers and freshman Taylor Soster at No. 1, while John Taylor and Othman Zerouali-Ouariti beat sophomore Austin Francis and freshman Alex Beaussart by the same score at No. 2. Wes Hancock and Timmy Allin completed the sweep by shutting out senior Harrison Maloy and sophomore Mike Gies, 8-0, at No. 3. Utah kept rolling through the six singles matches. Ganger defeated Rodgers, 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot, followed by Mann beating Francis, 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. Beaussart and Gies played the toughest matches for Air Force before falling to Allin (7-5, 6-2 at No. 5) and Stephen Jacobs (7-6, 6-1 at No. 6), respectively. The Falcons will take a couple of weeks off before heading to Fort Worth, Texas for the 2008 MWC Championships, which begin on Thursday, April 24. Air Force will be the seventh seed at the tournament and will play the No. 2 seed in the first round.
