Falcons Drop 6-1 Decision to Central Florida
March 25, 2010
The Air Force men’s tennis team had its nine-match winning streak snapped Thursday with a 6-1 loss to Central Florida at the UCF Tennis Complex. Freshman Lance Wilhelm posted the only win for Air Force, winning the No. 1 singles match. The Falcons fell to 10-3 this season, while UCF improved to 8-5.
The Knights began the day by sweeping the doubles competition, then won five of the six singles contests. At the top doubles spot, Marc Rocafort and Blaze Schwartz posted an 8-4 triumph over Brett Rodgers and Taylor Soster, snapping the Falcon duo’s 11-match winning streak. UCF also got doubles wins from Johan Beigart and Joe Delinks, 8-4 over Wilhelm and Austin Francis at No. 2, and Brock Sakey and Eugene Dolgovykh, 8-6 over Alex Beaussart and Sam Barnes at No. 3.
Wilhelm improved to 12-1 and won his seventh straight match with a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Rocafort, but that would be it for the Falcons. The No. 2 match was one of two to go three sets as Cludio Romano defeated Francis, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0. The other three-setter was at the No. 4 spot, where Nino Hasandedic rallied to beat Rodgers, 0-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Air Force returns to action on Sunday, March 28 against Illinois State at the Academy. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
