Falcons Shut Out Rhode Island, 7-0

The Air Force men's tennis team wrapped up its 15-match homestand Monday with a decisive 7-0 victory over Rhode Island at the Academy. With the victory, Air Force improves to 11-7 this season.
Air Force captured the doubles point with victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions. Freshmen Brett Rodgers and Mike Youn won at No. 2, defeating Andrew Costin and James McGuire, while senior Keith Cronican and freshman James Tomlin downed Adam Gart and Mark Marcello, 8-5, at the No. 3 spot. URI won the No. 1 match as Henrik Alstrom and Dixon Simmons beat Falcon seniors Robby Alexander and Ryan White, 8-5.
Alexander and White got some revenge in their singles matches, as both won in three sets. Alexander defeated Alstrom, 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 at the No. 1 spot, while White won at No. 5, defeating McGuire, 4-6, 7-6, 10-6.
Rodgers also survived a tough three-setter at the No. 2 position, beating Costin, 6-7, 6-4, 10-6. Youn (No. 3), Cronican (No. 4) and freshman Austin Francis (No. 6) all won in straight sets for the Falcons.
Air Force returns to action on Monday, March 26 for its annual spring break trip with a match against the University of San Francisco, beginning at 2 p.m.
