Falcons Fall to No. 69 Wichita State 5-2

    The Air Force men’s tennis team saw its six-match winning streak come to an end Saturday with a 5-2 loss to 69th-ranked Wichita State at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex in Wichita, Kan. With the victory, WSU improved to 10-6 while the Falcons fell to 12-3.

    The Shockers opened the match by winning all three doubles contests. Tomislav Gregurovic and Tin Ostojic defeated senior Alex Grubbs and sophomore Jack McCullers, 8-6, at the No. 1 spot, while Ilija Cuic and Jocelyn Devilliers clinched the point with an 8-7(7) thriller over junior Grant Taylor and freshman Lucas Fumagalli. Guillermo Nicol and Guillermo de Vilchez completed the sweep with an 8-4 triumph over senior Ali Rizvi and sophomore Andrew Parks at No. 3.

    In singles play, Ostojic (No. 2), Gregurovic (No. 3) and Nicol (No. 5) each won in straight sets to give WSU the team victory. Grubbs won the No. 4 match, 6-3, 7-6(2) over de Vilchez and Parks won the No. 6 contest, 6-4, 6-4, over Devilliers.

    The Falcons travel to Las Vegas next weekend for matches against Northern Arizona on Friday, March 21 and UNLV on Sunday, March 23.
