Falcons Drop Two Matches in Vegas

The Air Force men's tennis team dropped a pair of 5-2 decisions this weekend in Las Vegas, Nev. The Falcons lost to Ball State on Saturday and No. 68 UNLV on Sunday. Air Force is now 8-7 this season. Senior Lance Wilhelm and junior Alex Grubbs each posted a singles win against Ball State on Saturday. Wilhelm, ranked 86th in the country, was stretched to three sets before defeating Ray Leonard, 6-1, 6-7(5), 1-0(3) at the No. 1 spot, while Grubbs rallied to beat Patrick Elliott, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot. On Sunday, the Falcons won the doubles point by capturing the top two matches. Wilhelm and sophomore Grant Taylor defeated Ace Matias and Bernard Schoeman, 8-3, at the No. 1 spot, while Grubbs and freshman Jack McCullers downed Tama Batyi and Johannes Markel, 8-5, at No. 2. In singles, Grubbs posted AFA's lone victory, defeating Schoeman, 6-4, 6-4. The Falcons host Oral Roberts on Monday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. Ball State 5, Air Force 2 Doubles Singles
