Falcons Win Two at Home on Saturday

The Air Force men’s tennis team captured a pair of victories at the Academy on Saturday. The Falcons opened the day with an exciting 4-3 win over Weber State, then defeated CSU-Pueblo, 7-0, in the nightcap. The Falcons improved to 11-2, their best start since opening the 2002-03 season at 12-1.
The morning match against Weber State was touch and go the whole way. In doubles, senior Alex Grubbs and sophomore Jack McCullers clinched the all-important point with an 8-7(3) victory over Landon Barlow and James Smith at the No. 2 position. Junior Grant Taylor and freshman Lucas Fumagalli improved to 9-1 at the No. 3 spot with an 8-3 victory over Todd Fought and Jakub Gewert.
Grubbs gave Air Force a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sanjay Goswami at the No. 4 spot, but the Wildcats clawed back to even the match when Fought defeated Any Jackson 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot and Barlow downed McCullers 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 3.
Fumagalli put AFA up 3-2 with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Ryan Garner at No. 5 and Oliver Good evened things up again with a dramatic 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 victory over senior Steven Young at the No. 2 spot. Air Force sophomore Andrew Parks then clinched the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win over Smith at No. 6.
In the afternoon match, Air Force swept all nine matches, including all six singles contests in straight sets.
