Falcons Down Northern Arizona, 6-1

The Air Force men’s tennis team improved to 7-5 this season with a 6-1 victory over Northern Arizona Saturday at the Academy.
Air Force grabbed the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. Senior Lance Wilhelm and sophomore Grant Taylor won at the No. 1 position, 8-4, over Shaun Waters and Robert Martin, while junior Alex Grubbs and freshman Jack McCullers downed Patrick Schimmelbauer and Sarp Laleli, 8-3, at No. 2. Junior Steven Young and freshman Andrew Parks completed the sweep with an 8-2 triumph over Kester Black and Dominic Bermudez at No. 3.
In singles, the Falcons won five of the six matches, all in straight sets. Wilhelm improved to 10-2 at the top spot with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Waters and Taylor won the No. 2 match over Schimmelbauer, 6-3, 7-5. Young followed suit at the No. 3 spot, defeating Bermudez 6-2, 6-1.
Parks defeated Black, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 and junior Ali Rizvi won the No. 6 match over Laleli, 6-3, 6-4.
“I was happy with how our team responded after a tough loss yesterday,” said Air Force head coach Dan Oosterhous. “We battled through some rough moments in each match tonight but overall we made the right adjustments.”
The Falcons host CSU-Pueblo on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.
