Falcons Fall to Wichita State, 5-2

The Air Force men's tennis team had its three-match winning streak snapped Friday with a 5-2 loss to Wichita State at the Academy. WSU improved to 5-2, while the Falcons fell to 6-5 this season.
Air Force lost the doubles point to Wichita State as the Shockers won at the top two spots. Tomislav Gregurovic and Ilija Cuic defeated Lance Wilhelm and Grant Taylor, 8-6, at the No. 1 position, while Matheus Pereira and Tin Ostojic beat Alex Grubbs and Jack McCullers, 8-2 at No. 2. Steven Young and Andrew Parks won the No. 3 match for Air Force, 8-7, over Guillermo Nicol and Alvaro Gutierrez.
In singles, Young and Parks were the only winners for AFA. Young rallied to win the No. 4 match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Nicol, whole Parks defeated Ostojic, 6-2, 7-6 at the No. 6 spot. Wichita State took the other four matches, two of them in three sets.
Perieira handed Wilhelm just his second loss of the spring, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot, and Cuic won the No. 2 match over Taylor, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Gregurovic beat AFA sophomore Landon Kinsey, 6-0, 7-6 at No. 3 and Erick Reyes beat Grubbs, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5.
"We had a rough night tonight but a lot of credit has to go to Wichita State for coming in here and playing a very good match," said Air Force head coach Dan Oosterhous.
The Falcons host Northern Arizona on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m.
