Falcons Wrap Up Perfect Weekend With 5-2 Win Over Montana State

The Air Force men’s tennis team completed a perfect weekend in Bozeman, Mont., with a 5-2 victory Sunday over Montana State, snapping the Bobcats’ three-match winning streak. The Falcons, who won all three matches during the weekend, improved to 4-2 this spring, while MSU fell to 3-8.
The Falcons swept all three doubles matches for the third straight match to take an early 1-0 lead. Senior Brett Rodgers and junior Taylor Soster improved to 5-1 at the No. 1 spot with an 8-6 victory over Alberto Fuentes and Fletcher Keyes. Senior Austin Francis and freshman Lance Wilhelm won at No.2 with a 9-7 triumph over Myles Perkins and Esteban Ferrero, while junior Alex Beaussart and freshman Sam Barnes won by the same score at No. 3 over Joey Staszcuk and Pawel Turzanski.
Montana State won the top two singles matches with each going to a third-set tiebreaker. Wilhelm dropped his first match of the spring, falling to Turzanski, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 a the top spot, while Francis lost to Keyes, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, at the No. 2 spot.
Air Force won the other four matches to clinch the team match, including an exciting, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory by Rodgers at the No. 4 spot over Ferrero. Beaussart, who went 6-0 during the weekend, beat Staszcuk, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 6 position.
The Falcons are idle for a week until facing Portland State on Sunday, Feb. 28 at the Academy beginning at 10 a.m.
