Falcons Down Seattle University 6-1 For Third Straight Win

The Air Force men's tennis team won its third straight match to open the 2011 season with a 6-1 victory over Seattle University Sunday at the Academy. The Falcons won two of three doubles matches and five of the six singles contests. The Falcons jumped to a 1-0 lead by winning at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. Sophomore Lance Wilhelm and freshman Andy Jackson led things off with an 8-5 victory over David Kovas and Jordan Prince, then freshmen Lucas Marin-Salcedo and Danny Gies defeated Simon Meske and Jason Bedonas, 8-5, at No. 3. In singles play, Wilhelm, Jackson and freshman Alex Grubbs all improved to 3-0 with straight-set wins. Wilhelm downed Andrew Anderson, 6-2, 6-1 at the top spot, Jackson beat Kovas, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 and Grubbs defeated Matt Overland, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4. Marin-Salcedo (No. 5) and Steven Young (No. 6) also won in straight sets. The Falcons are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5 against Eastern Washington at the Academy, beginning at 10 a.m.
