Falcons Down Grand Canyon 6-1

The Air Force men’s tennis team improved to 2-0 Sunday with a decisive 6-1 victory over Grand Canyon University at the Academy. GCU fell to 1-1 this season.
The Falcons swept all three doubles matches en route to a 1-0 lead. AFA’s No. 3 team of junior Grant Taylor and freshman Lucas Fumagalli were off the court first after a 6-4 triumph over Benjamin Collomb and Alexander Roggenkamp. Seniors Andy Jackson and Steven Young clinched the point with a 6-3 victory over Arjun Bal and Felix Schueller at the No. 1 spot, while senior Alex Grubbs and sophomore Jack McCullers completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot over Adrian Legarreta and Nicolas Moulin.
In singles play, the Falcons won five of the six matches, three of them in straight sets. Grubbs put Air Force up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bal and McCullers made it 3-0 by defeating Schueller 6-5(4), 6-2. Young wrapped up the team match with a 6-2, 6-5(2) victory at the No. 2 spot over Legaratta. Jackson (No. 1) and sophomore Andrew Parks (No. 6) each won in three sets.
"We had another good result today,” said Air Force head coach Dan Oosterhous. “Andy Jackson had a great come-from-behind win for his first career victory at the No. 1 spot."
The Falcons will play two matches next Friday, Jan. 31. They will host BYU at 9:30 a.m., then travel to Denver University for a 4 p.m. start.
