Falcons Fall to Eastern Washington, 5-2

The Air Force men's tennis team dropped its third straight match to open the 2009 spring season, falling 5-2 to Eastern Washington, 5-2, Saturday at the Academy in the Falcons' home opener. With the victory, EWU improved to 3-3. EWU took an early 1-0 lead with wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles matches. The Falcon duo of Brett Rodgers and Taylor Soster won the No. 2 match, defeating Art Karas and Kenneth Norling, 8-7(5). In singles play, the Eagles captured the team match by winning the first four matches. Junior Austin Francis took Kyle Schrader to three sets at the No. l spot before falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. The Eagles won the Nos. 2 through 4 matches in straight sets. Soster won the No. 5 match, 6-2, 6-4, over Norling, while Johnny Buckingham rallied to win the No. 6 match, 3-6, 6-0, (10-1) over Chad Henninger. The Falcons host in-state rival University of Denver on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. Eastern Washington 5, Air Force 2 Singles Doubles
