Air Force Men Set to Compete in Anteater Shootout

    The Air Force men's swimming and diving team heads to the Anteater Shootout, hosted by UC Irvine, this weekend, Nov. 7-8. The Shootout, which features eight men's teams and 11 women's teams, will be held in two pools, with action starting Friday at 12:00 p.m. (PT) and Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

    The Field...
    The eight men's teams in the Anteater Shootout will be split up between two pools on Friday. Air Force, Cal Poly, Hawaii and UC Irvine will be competing in one pool, while BYU, Cal State Northridge, UC Davis and UNLV will compete in the other. The top two teams from each pool will then compete on Saturday.

    Last Time Out...
    The Air Force men's swimming and diving team faced off against service-academy rival Army in a relay meet last weekend, picking up a 61-57 victory.

    The Falcons won six of eight contested relays, along with both diving events. Leading the way for Air Force were senior Bryan Avery and junior Chris Morin, who each swam on three first-place relays.

    Scouting the Falcons...
    Air Force enters this weekend's match-up with a 2-1 overall record following last weekend's relay meet versus Army.

    Seven different Falcons rank in the top five in the Mountain West Conference in their respective events, led by freshman Robert Dawson who is rated second in the 50 free. Seniors Justin Day (100 breast) and Kai Yamashiro (100 back) and freshman Corydon Butler (1650 free) all rank third in their events, junior Chris Morin (100 fly) and sophomore Benjamin Gunn (200 IM) rank fourth and sophomore Eric Robinson ranks fifth (200 free). The Falcons also hold the top times in the conference in the 200 freestyle relay and the 200 and 400 medley relays.

     

     

    Scouting the Anteaters...
    The UC Irvine men's swimming and diving team opens its season with this weekend's shootout.

    Among the top returners for the Anteaters this year is senior Randall Tom, who was named the 2007 Big West Athlete of the Year and an honorable mention All-American before redshirting last season. UC Irvine's top returning diver is sophomore Miles Smith, who won both Big West diving titles as a freshman in 2008.

    Scouting the Mustangs...
    The Cal Poly men's swimming and diving team opened their season Oct. 25 at the Malibu Invitational and this weekend, will have its first dual action of the season.

    Leading the way for the Mustangs at the Malibu Invitational was sophomore Peter Kline, who won four events (100 back, 200 back, 200 IM, 400 IM). Meanwhile, freshman Jon Howard had five top-three finishes, winning the 200 free, and placing second in the 100 and 500 free and third in the 50 and 200 back.

    Scouting the Warriors...
    The Hawaii men's swimming and diving team opens its season with this weekend's shootout.

    Among the top returners for the Warriors this season are seniors Nicola Xella, the Conference USA runner-up in the 200 breaststroke, and Greg Wilson, the third-place finisher in both the 100 and 200 butterfly at the 2008 C-USA meet.

    Up Next...
    The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back in action next week, Nov. 13, when they open their home slate with a meet versus conference rival TCU. The dual is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Cadet Natatorium.
