Falcons Finish Third At Early Bird Invitational
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Air Force men's swimming & diving team placed third out of seven men's teams in the two-day Early Bird Invitational at the Edora Pool and Ice Center (EPIC) on Friday evening. Juniors Chris Knaute and Andrew Bergman won two events each to pace the Falcons.
The TCU men's (1024.5) and women's teams both finished first. Wyoming finished second with 968 points and AFA followed in third with 832 pts. Denver (339), Colorado (229.5), Colorado School of Mines (218) and Metro State (145) rounded out the remainder of the men's competition.
Knaute took first in the 1650 yard freestlyle and the 400 individual medley (4:03.65). Knaute was also part of the winning 400 free relay team (3:09.44) consisting of Knaute, T.J. Cowling, Matt Sievers and Paul Parmenter.
Bergman swept both of the breaststroke events, winning the 100 breast with a 58.88 mark and the 200 breast with a 2:10.47 time.
Sievers, Cowling and Parmenter also swam well in individual events for the Falcons. Sievers placed second in the 100 butterfly (52.21). Cowling took third in both the 100 free (47.78) and 200 free (1:45.24). Parmenter placed second in both the 200 free (1:44.68) and the 200 butterfly (1:53.57).
The Falcons' top diver was junior Brady Lindberg, who placed sixth in the three-meter dive with 515.60 points.
The Falcons return to action next Saturday, Oct. 29, as they host a five-way meet at the Cadet Natatorium beginning at 10 a.m.
