Two Falcons Named 2012 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Two Air Force mens' swimmers earned Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors, announced by the conference office today. Senior Cody Deacon and freshman Sam Wieser were named scholar-athletes.
Deacon, who recently graduated with a 3.84 grade-point average and a degree in aeronautical engineering with a minor in Russian, has racked up several academic accolades this spring. The senior from Portland, Ore., recently earned First-Team Academic All-America honors, First-team Academic All-District and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) all-academic.
Wieser, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., maintains a 3.53 GPA and is majoring in Economics.
A total of 471 student-athletes were honored, including 39 individuals who have achieved a 4.00 or higher cumulative grade point average over two or more terms, and 61 student-athletes who were recognized in multiple sports.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
Air Force men's swimming does not compete in the Mountain West Conference but is included for scholar-athlete recognition.
