Four MWC Student-Athletes Earn NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships

May 5, 2003

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The NCAA has awarded 58 postgraduate scholarships, 29 to men and 29 to women who participated in winter sports, and four MWC student-athletes made this year's recipient list. Elia Burrill and John Dayton of the Air Force Academy, Anna Karin Strandberg of the University of New Mexico and Theresa Kulikowski of the University of Utah were postgraduate scholarship honorees. Burrill, a management major, participates on the Falcons' fencing team, while Dayton, an aero engineering major, is a member of the swimming team. Strandberg is majoring in pre-forestry and is on the Lobos' nordic skiing team. Kulikowski is majoring in psychology and is on the Utes' gymnastics team.

To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.200 (on a 4.000 scale) or its equivalent and must have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which the student-athlete was nominated. The student-athlete must have behaved, both on and off the field, in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics. The student-athlete also must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.
