USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - For the second-consecutive year, junior Chris Knaute represents Air Force at the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships from March, 23-25, at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga. Knaute will be competing in three events.
"Chris is going to compete very well at the NCAA meet in Atlanta," men's head coach Rob Clayton said. "This is the one meet that he has been aiming at this season. Last season, the focus was the Mountain West Conference meet and qualifying for the NCAA Championships. We're optimistic that he's ready for his best swims at the NCAA's."
Knaute opens the meet on Thursday by taking part in the 500 yard freestyle. The prelims are at noon and the finals take place at 7 p.m. In 2005, Knaute placed 32nd in the 500 free with a time of 4:23.49.
On Friday, the Houston, Texas (Cypress Creek HS), native competes in the 400 individual medley. The prelims and finals are the same time as Thursday's 500 free times. Last year, Knaute placed 21st with a time of 3:51.93.
Knaute concludes the championships with the 1650 free on Saturday, which begins around 4:45 p.m. He placed 31st a year ago with a time of 15:22.73.
"Our goal is to score at the NCAA meet--something that Air Force has not done in over 10 years," Clayton said.
