Air Force Set to Host 2009 NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals

    USAFA, Colo. - The Air Force Academy will be the host institution for the 2009 NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals, to be held March 12-14 in Austin, Texas. The competition, which serves as a qualifying competition for the NCAA Championships, will take place at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center, on the campus of the University of Texas.

    Zone E consists of 35 schools from 11 states in the West Region--Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

    Competition at the Zone E meet begins Thursday with the men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter springboard events. Friday's action will include the men's 3-meter and women's 1-meter events, while the regional concludes Saturday with the platform diving events.

    Six men and seven women from Zone E will receive bids to the NCAA Championships, which are being held in College Station, Texas, March 19-21 (women) and March 26-28 (men). NCAA Championship qualifiers will be announced at the conclusion of Saturday's events.

    Representing Air Force at this year's diving regionals are juniors Kyle Van Valkenburg (Tucson, Ariz.) and David Arlington (Eagle River, Alaska). Van Valkenburg earned All-MWC honors in both the platform and 3-meter springboard events, winning the conference title in the platform, while finishing fifth at 3-meters. Meanwhile, Arlington earned all-conference honors in the 1-meter springboard event, placing fifth.
