2005 MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS UNDERWAY
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Five-time defending conference champion BYU leads the men's and women's field with 122 and 108 points, respectively, after day one at the Mountain West Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at Oklahoma City Community College. Wyoming trails the Cougars in men's action with 109 points, followed by Utah (107), UNLV (70) and Air Force (65). New Mexico holds the No. 2 spot in the women's events with 90 points, followed by Wyoming (89), Utah (87), UNLV (84), Colorado State (74), San Diego State (49) and Air Force (46).Day two events begin Thursday, Feb. 24, with preliminary events at 10 a.m. CST and finals competition at 6 p.m. The MWC Swimming & Diving Championships conclude Saturday, Feb. 26, following the 6 p.m. finals events and the announcement of the individual and team awards.MWC Swimming & Diving Championships Notes:UNLV set a new MWC and school record in the men's 200-yard medley relay (1:27.02). The Rebels captured their fifth title in the event in six years (2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005).Colorado State captured its third consecutive 200-yard medley relay title and fourth in six years (2000, 2003, 2004 and 2005). They were the runner-up in 2001 and 2002.New Mexico's Becca Barras won her third consecutive title in the 1-meter diving event.BYU captured its fifth men's 800-yard freestyle relay title in six years (2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005).Utah won its second women's 800-yard freestyle relay title in three years (7:25.34). - MWC -
