U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force men’s swimming and diving team travels to Houston, Texas, for the 2018 Western Athletic Conference Championships, Feb. 21-24, at the CRWC Natatorium. The meet begins on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 10:30 with the preliminaries of 3-meter diving.
Air Force is the two-time defending WAC Championships, winning the title with 771 points in 2016 and 794.5 points in 2017. The 2016 WAC title was Air Force’s first ever conference championship in men’s swimming and diving.
This season, the Falcons were picked to finish second in the pre-tournament coaches poll. Wyoming was picked to win the league title.
Several Falcons rank among the fastest in the WAC, led by junior Steffen Mount, who holds the WAC’s second fastest time in the 50 free (19.96), 100 free (43.23) and 100 fly (47.41). He also ranks third in the league in the 200 free (1:37.66).
Senior Garrett Glaudini has the league’s third fastest time in the 1650 free (15:31.10) and the fourth fastest time in the 500 free (4:28.53). Junior Collin Green has the second fastest in the 1650 free (15:27.28) and the sixth fastest in the 500 free (4:30.50).
In the 100 backstroke, sophomore Cole McAnany has the third fastest time (48.40) while senior Joey Gebhart ranks fifth (48.90). In the 200 back, Gebhart ranks fourth (1:48.29) while McAnany is sixth (1:48.89).
Freshman Peter Lochmaier ranks fifth in the 200 fly (1:48.55). In the 200 IM, Nelson ranks third with a time of 1:49.82.
Five Falcons rank in the top seven of the 400 IM as Glaudini ranks second (3:55.19), sophomore Kyle Bundesmann is third (3:55.87), Green is fourth (3:55.99), Brecht is sixth (3:58.19) and Nelson is seventh (3:58.51).
