Falcon Men Finish Third at MWC Swimming and Diving Championships


    Air Force seniors Matt Ihlenfeld and Charlie Toth led the Falcons' men's swimming and diving team to a third-place finish at the 2001Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.

    Ihlenfeld won his second title in as many days on Saturday, capturing the 200-yard breaststroke event with a time of 1 minute, 58.67seconds. He won the 100 breaststroke on Friday with a time of 54.70 seconds. Both times are NCAA cut times.

    Toth recorded a second place finish in the 100 freestyle, with a time of 43.79 seconds, an NCAA cut time. He had previously anchored the Falcons' winning 200 medley relay team on Wednesday, and teamed with Ihlenfeld and freshman Paul Brehm and Eric Pounds to finish second in the 400 medley relay on Thursday.

    BYU captured its second consecutive conference team championship with 828.5 points. UNLV finished with 817 points, followed by the Falcons with 585.
