Falcon Swimming & Diving Falls At Utah


    SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Utah in a Mountain West Conference dual meet at the Ute Natatorium. The men's team fell 174-106, while the women were downed 194.5-105.5.

    The Falcon men (13-6, 1-2 MWC) were again led by sophomore Chris Knaute, who took first in two events and second in another. Knaute won the 200 yard freestyle (1:41.01) and the 500 free (4:36.35) and finished second in the 400 individual medley (4:04.30).

    Senior Evan Parr and junior Matt Karmondy also had first-place swims for the Falcons. Parr won the 100 backstroke (52.17), while Karmondy was the top swimmer in the 1000 free (9:50.51). Sophomore Paul Parmenter took second in the 100 back (53.97) and senior Ryan Fitzgerald also finishing second in the 1000 free (9:54.96).

    The Air Force women (19-16, 0-5) were led by junior Carly Omizo, who won the 100 breaststroke with a swim of 1:08.08.

    Also earning first-place points for the Falcons were sophomores Lauren White in the 500 free (5:11.70) and Lindsey Kirchhoff in the 100 butterfly (1:00.92) and junior Colleen Smith in the 400 IM (4:47.03).

    Sophomore Lauren Bursey was the top diver for Air Force, taking second in the both the one-meter (201.65) and three-meter dives (212.50).

    The Falcon diving team next hosts the two-day Air Force Academy Diving Invitational beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4 and runs till Feb. 5, with a 9:30 a.m. start time on Saturday.

    The AFA swimming & diving team returns to action Saturday, Feb. 5, hosting Wyoming at 1 p.m. in their final home meet of the season.
