Falcon Swimming Opens 2006 At UC San Diego


    LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Air Force swim team opened the 2006 year with a dual meet at UC San Diego Friday morning at Canyonview Pool. The Falcon men tied the Tritons, 172-172, and the women fell 150-94.

    The Triton men took first in six of ten relay events, while the UCSD women placed first in eight of ten relay events.

    The Falcon men (5-1-1) won the 300 yard butterfly, 300 breaststroke, 400 medley and 400 individual medley relays. Paul Parmenter, Matt Sievers and Ryan Moss teamed to win the 300 fly relay with a time of 2:37.25. Andrew Bergman, Justin Day and Nick Burton won the 300 breast relay with a time of 2:57.21.

    In the 400 medley relay, Kai Yamashiro, Bergman, Sievers and T.J. Cowling won the event with a swim of 3:30.30. Burton, Chris Knaute, Nick Dixon and Layne Wilson won the 400 individual medley relay with a time of 3:40.30.

    The Falcon women (7-3) were victorious in the 400 individual medley and 400 free relays. Jane Hwang, Colleen Smith, Lindsey Kirchhoff and Blair Leake won the 400 IM relay with a time of 4:17.60. Carly Omizo, Ginny Miller, Tiffany Biddle and Laken Stogner won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:5070.

    Air Force returns to action next Friday, Jan. 13, hosting Wisconsin-Milwaukee beginning at 4 p.m. at the Cadet Natatorium.
