Air Force Returns to Action Jan. 4 Against Washington
The Air Force men's swim team open the second half of its 2000-01
season by hosting the University of Washington on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 6 p.m.
in the Cadet Natatorium.
The Falcons finished the first half of the season with a 6-2 record dual meet record and the team title from the season opening Early Bird Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo. They defeated Metro State and Colorado School of Mines, then won four of six duals at the Big West Shootout in Irvine, Calif. The first half of the season was capped by an impressive third-place finish at the Minnesota Invitational. Senior Tyler Paige and junior Matt Horner led several Falcons with outstanding performances in the first half of the season. Paige tied the ninth fastest time in school history in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.99 seconds en route to a first-place finish at the Early Bird Invitational. He also won the 100-yard freestyle event and was a part of two winning relay teams. Horner, meanwhile, posted four top 10 finishes at the Minnesota Invitational, including fifth-place efforts in the 200 and 400-yard individual medley races. His time of 1:53.35 in the 200 IM is the team's best this season, and the second fastest among Mountain West Conference swimmers. After swimming against the Huskies, both teams take to the road for MWC dual meets against BYU on Friday, Jan. 12 in Provo, Utah, and the University of Utah on Saturday, Jan. 13 in Salt Lake City.
