LONG BEACH, Calif.- The Air Force men's swim team completed day one action Thursday at the Arena Invite at the Belmont Swim Complex. Air Force's 400 medley relay group led the way with a fifth place finish.
The Falcons had six swimmers reach the finals in the three individual events on the day.
The group of Angus MacDonald, Cody Deacon, Paul Leonhardt and Micah Newmann swam a season-best time of 3:20.30 in the 400 medley relay, shaving seven seconds off its previous season best. The Falcons also swam well in the 200 free relay, taking eight place. The group of MacDonald, Leonhardt, Cole Smithand Newmann, swam a season-best time of 1:22.86, nearly three seconds faster than the previous best.
Leonhardt was AFA's top individual finisher, taking 16th in the 200 medley. His prelim time of 1:50.97 was a season best. Ryan Dunnefollowed in 21st with a season best time of 1:53.40.
Senior Corydon Butler led the way in the 500 free with a 17th place finish. Butler swam a finals time of 4:32.63. Max Evans-Nolan followed in 29th (4:33.99), Alex Strom took 32nd (4:35.85), Jon Jones 35th (4:38.16) and Ryan Brigman41st (4:39.98).
In the 50 free, Newmann led the Falcons with a 32nd place finish. Newmann swam a season-best time of 21.25. Cole Smith followed in 43rd (21.51), Tim Martinelli in 53rd (21.93), Deacon 59th (21.99) and Jonathan Engwas 61st (22.06).
Day two of the three-day meet is tomorrow Friday, Nov. 18.
