Air Force Men's Swimming & Diving Wins At SMU

DALLAS, Texas - The Air Force men's swimming and diving team won a dual meet at SMU, 124-119, Saturday morning at Perkins Natatorium. The Falcons improved to 4-1 on the year.
After a tough 162-138 loss at TCU the night before, Air Force responded by taking first in 6-of-13 events. Senior Benjamin Gunn led the Falcons with wins in the 200 yard individual medley, 100 backstroke and led-off the winning 200 medley relay squad.
Air Force then swept the top three spots in the 1000 free. Sophomore Ryan Brigman won the event with a time of 9:36.17. Junior Corydon Butler took second (9:38.13) and sophomore Jon Jones placed third (9:54.95).
Gunn then won the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.76, and later the 100 back with a time of 51.61. Freshman Angus MacDonald also swam well in the 100 back, taking second with a time of 52.54.
Butler took first in the 500 free with a time of 4:37.85. Deacon won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.42. Senior Josh Hammervold also swam well in the 100 breast, taking second with a time of 58.28.
Senior Nathaniel Gilbert was Air Force's top finisher in the 1-meter springboard diving, taking second with 260.25 points. Freshmen Alex Pecci and Peter Cialkowski followed in third and fourth with 252.97 points for Pecci and 252.82 points for Cialkowski.
Pecci was AFA's top diver in the 3-meter diving, taking second with 258 points. Cialkowski took third with 222.30 points and Gilbert fourth with 219.75 points.
Air Force returns to action Oct. 29, in a three-way meet in Golden with Colorado School of Mines and Mesa State.
