    GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Air Force men's swimming & diving team completed day one action at the Intermountain Shootout at El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of Colorado Mesa University Friday afternoon. The Falcons took first place in four of nine events on the day.

    Air Force leads host Colorado Mesa 120-46 and trails Utah 89-77 after the first day of the two-day competition. The Falcons came away in first place in the 200 yard medley relay, 100 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 1650 freestyle events.

    Angus MacDonald, Cody Deacon, Nate Roesler and Micah Newmann won the 200 medley relay for the Falcons with a time of 1:33.58. Deacon also took first in the 100 breast, with a time of 57.64.

    Sophomore Paul Leonhardt won the 50 fly with a time of 23.80 and freshman Max Evans-Nolan won the 1650 free with a time of 16:14.37.

    The Falcons dominated both the 50 fly and 1650 free events. The Falcons took first, third and fourth in the 50 fly, with freshman Kyle Casias taking third (23.92) and junior Anthony Chiaro placing fourth (24.00). Air Force had a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1650, with Alex Strom taking second (16:59.49) and junior Ryan Brigman placing third (17:03.06).

    The Falcons went second, third and fourth in the 200 free. Senior Corydon Butler took second (1:43.88), junior Jon Jones third (1:44.92) and Leonhardt fourth (1:46.32).

    The AFA divers were led by sophomore Alex Pecci, who took fifth in the 1m springboard diving with 233.20 points. Junior Brent White took sixth with 207.60 points and freshman Greg Copeland took seventh with 195.15 points.

    Day two action is Saturday, Oct. 8.
