Air Force Men's Swimming Dominant In Day One At Intermountain Shootout

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's swimming & diving opened the 2012-13 season in dominant fashion, winning all eight events in opening day action at the Intermountain Shootout at the El Pomar Natatorium on the Colorado Mesa University campus Friday.

    The Falcons lead team competition with 114 points. Air Force won both relays and six individual events--four by freshmen--on the day, including the top five spots in the 200 freestyle and 400 individual medley.

    A win in the 200 medley relay got things started for the Falcons. Angus MacDonald, Michael Barnosky, Kevin Mitchell and George Frank combined to swim a winning time of 1:34.77.

    Mitchell then followed up by winning the 200 free with a finals time of 1:44.27. Tim Martinelli posted the fastest time in the 200 free for the Falcons, with a time of 1:43.23 in the prelims.

    Joining freshman classmate Mitchell, Barnosky then won the 400 IM with a time of 4:21.99. Frank, another freshman, then won the 50 free with a finals time of 21.85. Martinelli was AFA's fastest 50 freestyler, with a prelim time of 21.27.

    Barnosky then earned his third win of the day, taking first in the 100 breast with a finals time of 59.90. Barnosky also swam a 58.84 in the prelims.

    The 400 free relay, consisting of the all freshmen group of Alex Leighton, Frank, Robert Graves and Mitchell, won with a time of 3:12.55.

    Air Force capped the day off with wins by sophomores Ryan Dunne in the 50 butterfly (23.24) and Max Evans-Nolan in the 1650 free (16:17.30).

    Day two action resumes tomorrow, Saturday.
