Air Force Wraps Up Second Day at NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals

    AUSTIN, Texas - Air Force once again landed two athletes in the finals, as the second day of action was completed at the 2010 NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals, being held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center on the campus of the University of Texas.

    Senior David Arlington (Eagle River, Alaska) was the Falcons' leading performer for the second-straight day, placing 14th overall on the men's 1-meter springboard. After posting a preliminary mark of 277.15 to move into the finals, Arlington finished with a combined score of 553.10.

    Meanwhile, teammate Kyle Van Valkenburg (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) also advanced to the finals in the event, recording a preliminary score of 276.30. Van Valkenburg finished 16th overall with a combined mark of 538.80.

    USC swept the top spots in both the men's and women's events on Friday, with Harrison Jones capturing the title in the men's 1-meter springboard, while Victoria Ishimatsu won the women's 3-meter event.

    Jones, a two-time All-American as a freshman, registered a score of 803.90 to take first place on the men's 1-meter board. Arizona's Ben Grado, who finished third on the 3-meter board on Thursday, placed second with a mark of 769.10. Meanwhile, Blaha Constantin of Arizona State, the runner-up in the 3-meter competition this year, placed third at 1-meter with a score of 753.00.

    Ishimatsu, who won the 1-meter springboard on Thursday, earned the 3-meter title with a mark of 657.45. Elina Eggers of Arizona State placed second with a score of 642.45, while Wyoming's Stephanie Ortiz placed third at 635.60.

    Action at the Zone E meet concludes Saturday with the men's and women's platform events. At the end of the meet, the qualifiers for the NCAA Championships will be released. Seven men and six women from Zone E will earn bids to this year's national championships, which will be held March 18-20 (women) in West Lafayette, Ind., and March 25-27 (men) in Columbus, Ohio.
