Falcons Wrap Up Competition at Air Force Diving Invitational

USAFA, Colo. - Led by seniors Kyle Van Valkenburg (Tucson, Ariz.) and Chelsea Tompkins (Grand Junction, Colo.), the Air Force men's and women's diving teams concluded competition Saturday at the annual Air Force Diving Invitational.
Van Valkenburg recorded his first win of the weekend in the men's 1-meter event, posting a season-best score of 312.75. Meanwhile, Beau Riebe (Fr., Mercer Island, Wash.) and David Arlington (Sr., Eagle River, Alaska) added top-five finishes, placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Rounding out the competitors for Air Force in the event were Jesse Bicknell (So., Westtown, N.Y.), Cheyne Clark (So., Bainbridge Island, Wash.), Brent White (Fr., Loveland, Colo.) and Nathaniel Gilbert (Jr., River Falls, Wis.), who took the sixth- through ninth-place spots.
Meanwhile, Van Valkenburg was also Air Force's top finisher on the men's platform, taking second place with a score of 339.55. Clark placed third with a mark of 230.50, followed by Bicknell in fourth place at 223.50. Riebe (sixth), Arlington (seventh), White (eighth) and Gilbert (10th) rounded out the group. Winning the event, his second of the weekend, was Wyoming's Mark Murdock.
For the women, Tompkins had a strong showing in the platform event, taking second place with a score of 197.95, finishing behind New Mexico's Aubrey Bush. Meanwhile, Tompkins turned in a 19th-place showing on the 3-meter board, recording a mark of 224.95. Finishing first at 3-meters for the women was Wyoming's Allie Smith.
The Air Force swimming and diving teams conclude the regular season next weekend, Feb. 6, when they host Wyoming in a 1:00 p.m. dual meet. It will mark the final home appearance for the Falcons' 10 seniors.
