Air Force Swimming & Diving Swept By Denver and UNLV

DENVER - The Air Force swimming & diving teams were swept by Denver and UNLV Friday night at the El Poma Natatorium. The Falcon men lost 200-98 to Denver and 179-114 to UNLV. The Falcon women lost 235-59 to Denver and 220-71 to UNLV.
Freshman Paul Leonhardt led the Falcon men with three top-four finishes. Leonhardt placed second in the 100 yard freestyle (46.13), third in the 200 free (1:42.06) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (1:57.04).
Junior Cody Deacon also swam well for Air Force, placing third in the 100 breaststroke (57.28) and fifth in the 200 breast (2:09.50).
The Falcons got fourth-place swims by junior Cole Smith in the 100 free with a time of 21.22 and sophomore Paul Young in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.22. Sophomore Matt Millikin took fifth in the 100 back (52.46) and sophomore Ryan Sittig also took fifth in the 100 free (10:09.57).
Freshman Eryn Bleyl led the Falcon women with team-leading swims in the 500 free and 100 back. Bleyl placed third in the 500 free (5:09.38) and sixth in the 100 back (59.01).
A trio of Falcons took fourth place in the 50 free, 200 breast and 100 butterfly events. Junior Cassie Fletcher took fourth in the 50 free (24.72), sophomore Katrina Castellanos took fourth in the 200 breast (2:28.90) and junior Katharine Ernst took fourth in the 100 fly (58.63).
Freshman Moranda Hern led Air Force in both diving events, taking third in the 3m springboard (254.30) and fourth in the 1m springboard (202.40).
The Falcons return to action next week with a pair of conference dual meets in Utah. The Falcons take on BYU on Jan. 20 and Utah on Jan. 22.
