Three Falcons Earn Men's Soccer All-Conference Honors
Nov. 27, 2007
Three members of the Air Force Academy men's soccer team were named to the 2007 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-conference teams, announced Monday by the conference. Senior goalie Brian Guyette earned a first-team selection, while senior Andy Nigro was a second-team pick and senior Jason Belvill was named honorable mention.
Guyette, a co-captain from Phoenix, Ariz., was selected to the first-team for the first time after two consecutive second-team selections. He led the MPSF with 107 saves, including a career-high 15 on Oct. 13 against Denver, which ties the national-high for one game this season. He also finished third in the conference with an impressive 1.37 goals-against average and had a 1.57 GAA in 48 career games with the Falcons. Guyette finished his career with seven shutouts, including a 1-0 victory over UNLV in his final career game on Nov. 18.
Nigro, a midfielder from Colorado Springs, Colo., led the team in scoring this season with seven points on three goals and one assist. He scored the only goal in AFA's 1-0 victory over UNLV in his final game as a Falcon. Nigro was a first-team all-MPSF selection as a junior and ended his career at Air Force with 19 points (7g, 5a) in 68 games.
Belvill, a defender from Seattle, Wash., led a defense in '07 that allowed just 1.5 goals per game and posted three shutouts. He did not score in 2007, but recorded two assists in his career, which spanned 62 games. Belvill is a two-time selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team and the MPSF all-academic team. This is his first all-conference selection.
Air Force finished the 2007 campaign with a 5-12-1 overall record and a 3-6 mark in the MPSF.
