The Air Force Falcons open the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 14 against the Houston Baptist Huskies in the quarterfinals. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at the Academy’s Cadet Soccer Stadium. Air Force is the tournament’s No. 4 seed after finishing the regular season with a 3-10-5 overall record and 3-2-5 mark the WAC, while the Huskies are the fifth seed and finished 9-6-2 overall and 4-4-2 in league play. The two teams tied for the East Division title with 14 points in WAC play, but Air Force gained the higher seed due to a 1-0-1 record against Houston Baptist this season.
Downey, Klazura earn All-WAC Honors
Senior co-captains Caleb Downey and Brian Klazura were selected to the 2013 All-WAC teams on Tuesday. Downey, a defender from Evergreen, Colo., was selected to the first team, while Klazura, a forward from Rockford, Ill., is a second-team pick.
This is the third all-conference honor for Downey, who was a second-team all-MPSF selection in 2011 and an honorable mention last season. This is Klazura’s first all-conference selection.

Air Force Closes Out Regular Season With Split vs. Grand Canyon
Air Force extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Grand Canyon last Tuesday night in a make-up game from the postponed Oct. 5 game due to the government shutdown. The two teams also played in the regular-season finale last Friday night in Phoenix with GCU claiming a 1-0 victory.
Sophomore Gus Jensen scored the game-winning goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation to complete the rally against GCU. Jensen, who scored his first career goal with the game-winner in the previous game against Bakersfield, found the ball at his feet at the top of the box and fired a rocket past GCU goalie Joshua Zehring to the far post with 3:04 left on the clock.
