    Falcons Open MPSF Tournament on Thursday
    The Air Force Falcons open the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 8 against the UNLV Rebels in the quarterfinals. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex in Albuqueruqe, N.M. Air Force is the tournament’s No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season with an 8-8-3 overall record and 5-3-2 mark the MPSF, while the Rebels are the sixth-seed and finished 6-13-1 overall and 4-6 in league play.

    Air Force Finishes Third in MPSF After Loss to DU
    Senior Kevin Rossillon and sophomore Matt Payne each scored the first goal of his career Saturday night but it was not enough as the Air Force men’s soccer team lost 3-2 to the University of Denver in the 2012 regular season finale at CIBER Field in Denver. The Falcons fell to 8-8-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and will be the No. 3 seed at the MPSF Tournament.

    Rossillon’s first career goal cut DU’s 2-0 lead in half in the 47th minute after the Pioneers scored in the fifth and 19th minute. Rossillon took a pass from senior Kevin Durr and fired a rocket from 27 yards past DU keeper Oliver Brown.

    DU’s Jordan Schweitzer then scored the game-winner in the 53rd minute with a shot that eluded Air Force goalie Matt Underwood, who finished the game with three saves. Payne then scored his first career goal in the 84th minute off a pass from junior Brian Klazura.

    Denver held a slight 13-10 advantage in total shots and 7-4 in shots on goal. Four Pioneers and Klazura each had a game-high two shots.

    Last Year at the MPSF Tournament
    Air Force defeated the University of Denver, 2-0, in the quarterfinals thanks to goals from Garrett Getschow and Kevin Durr. The Falcons fell in the semis, however, 1-0 to CSU Bakersfield.

    Underwood Up There in MPSF Stats
    Senior goalie Matt Underwood finished the regular season leading the MPSF with 83 saves and tied for second with six shutouts. He is also third in save percentage (.776).

    As a team, the Falcons are second in the MPSF with 86 saves and fourth with 24 goals allowed.

    Falcons Picked Third, Finish Third
    The coaches were correct this season in picking the top six teams in the MPSF preseason coaches poll, voted on by the league’s eight head coaches. The Falcons were picked tied for third with DU and finished third, one point ahead of the Pioneers and San Jose State.
