Eric Wilson Named to CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week
Oct. 26, 2009
Air Force men's soccer player Eric Wilson was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week for the period ending Oct. 25. The team recognizes the top eleven performers in the country. He is the second Falcon to be named to the team this season as Kevin Rosser was named earlier this year. Wilson, a sophomore defender from Monument, Colo., helped the Falcons sweep a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation games at home this past weekend. Air Force defeated New Mexico, 1-0, on Friday and UNLV, 2-1, on Sunday. On Friday, Wilson was very solid on the backline as the Falcons defeated UNM for the first time since the 2003 season, snapping a seven-game losing streak and 11-game winless streak against the Lobos. New Mexico registered 15 total shots, but only six were on goal, all saved by AFA goalie Mike Mauro. No Lobo player had more than two shots on goal during the contest. On Sunday, Wilson played just as well on the defensive side of the ball, but also got involved in the offense. He headed a corner kick towards an open net that a UNLV defender knocked off the goal-line with a hand ball, giving the Falcons a penalty kick, which was put in by Rosser. Wilson attempted two of Air Force's 20 total shots against the Rebels. The Falcons (7-5-1, 2-2 MPSF) travel to conference foes Cal-State Bakersfield and Seattle University this weekend.
