Air Force junior defender Caleb Downey was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Soccer Player of the Week after scoring his second game-winning goal against top-10 ranked New Mexico in seven days.
Downey scored the game-winner last Friday night at Cadet Soccer Stadium in a 2-1 victory over the 8th-ranked Lobos. He headed in a pass from Jake Jones in the 75th-minute as the Falcons regained first place in the Mountain Division.
Downey, who scored the game's only goal in a 1-0 overtime win the previous Friday in Albuquerque, N.M., over then fifth-ranked UNM, once again was instrumental in shutting down the MPSF's top-scoring team and player, Devon Sandoval. He and his back-line teammates held the Lobos to just four shots on goal while Sandoval attempted none.
Downey was also named Air Force's Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The Falcons host Seattle University this Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
