USAFA, Colo. -- The Falcons' men's soccer team upset Fresno State, winning 2-0 in freezing temperatures. The Bulldogs had lost just one game on the season and had never lost to the Falcons on the road. That changed Friday (Oct. 5), as the Falcons used an unrelenting offense and a stiff defense to earn their first conference victory of the season.

"We have a group of players with the heart and the attitude to win," said head coach Luis Sagastume. "We knew it was just a matter of time before we started to play to our potential. I am pleased that it came today - against Fresno State, a team we have never beaten at home."

Brandon Jones scored the game's first goal 10 minutes into the game, drilling a brilliant shot into the corner of the net. It gave the Falcons momentum and confidence, which carried them throughout the game. After taking the 1-0 lead, they never let up, continually attacking the Fresno State goal.

Britton Miller added an insurance goal late in the first half. He collected the ball after it had deflected off Fresno State's goalkeeper Jeremy Proud and put it into the net to give the Falcons the lead permanently.

"We had great performances by everybody," Sagastume said. "Hopefully, this victory will give us confidence that we will carry with us throughout the remainder of the season."

Falcon goalkeeper Mike Taylor recorded his first career shutout victory. Taylor received the starting nod when regular goalkeeper Mike Brophy was forced to miss the game because of a red card.

The Falcons (3-3-1, 1-1-0 MPSF) will take on conference foe Sacramento State on Sunday (Oct. 7) at 1 p.m.
