Air Force hosts Falcon Invitational
Sept. 18, 2003 After two weekends and four games on the road, the Air Force men's soccer team returns home for the Falcon Invitational this weekend. The tournament begins on Friday, Sept. 19 when Loyola Marymount and Oral Roberts square off at 4:30 p.m., followed by Air Force against Bucknell at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 21, Bucknell and LMU battle at 12 p.m., while Air Force and Oral Roberts play at 2 p.m. The Falcons are 3-3 this season after splitting a pair of overtime games at the John Byrden Classic in Denver last weekend. Air Force lost to New Hampshire, 2-1 in overtime on Friday, then rebounded to beat Northeastern, 2-1, in double overtime on Sunday. Bucknell enters the tournament with a 3-2 record after defeating LaSalle, 4-1, at home on Tuesday. Oral Roberts is 1-3-1 and lost its last two games in double overtime (1-0 to SMU and 2-1 to Tulsa). Loyola Marymount, meanwhile, is 3-2-1 and No. 6 in the latest NSCAA Far West Region rankings. Air Force sophomore Daniel Wasson is tied for the national lead with 15 points (7 goals, 1 assist) this season. He is tied for ninth in the country for points per game at 2.5, and tied for eighth with 1.17 goals per game. Wasson, who scored the game-winner against Northeastern last Sunday, currently leads the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in scoring and goals and has notched the game-winner in all three AFA victories this year. Falcon senior Casey Chronister, junior Marcus Sagastume and sophomore Colin Eames are tied for third in scoring in the MPSF with eight points. Sagastume and Eames are tied for second in assists, averaging 0.67 per game. The Falcons lead the conference in scoring with 51 points (18 goals, 15 assists), 21 more than second place Denver.
